SIS Programs employ an innovative approach to language instruction and acquisition. This method, FICCS: Full-Immersion, Culture, Content and Service, was created exclusively for participants in SIS Programs. As outlined in the acronym, the method combines the many aspects of a studentÕs experience abroad to achieve the most effective union of guided and spontaneous language learning.

It is essential to remember that a FICCS semester is very different than a typical college semester. The FICCS semester is a journey that culminates with a final paper/project in Italian for each course. As a progressive journey, certain factors are essential to keep in mind. Class attendance is mandatory because, no matter how frustrating, each lesson is important to the big picture. Students will feel challenged and discouraged at times but it is precisely by overcoming these hurdles that render the final result even more effective and more rewarding.

The SIS staff is here to assist and encourage students throughout this journey. During the semester, various support materials will be provided when necessary and students are encouraged to discuss concerns with the staff during the semester.
